What to expect at the clinic of sleep apnea during the night test?
I've been given this appointment overnight with no information to I do not know what to expect at all. anyone can advise and please anyone out there has experience of sleep apnea?
I have sleep apnea sleep, a severe case of that too boot. Like you I was "blind" for my sleep study. I was told to bring clothes, material morning ritual, and any another person to help you sleep. They usually ask you to be there around 8 or maybe 9 o'clock so they can start putting the electrodes varies in part of your body. I had as one on each side of my calves and two on my chest and 10 different points in my head. (Dont worry the goop not wash your hair) when you are ready too sleep they hook up the electrodes of the monitor. All you do is sleep and they will see you on camera while they watch your heartbeat and breathing. If your wake up some during the night and have to use the bathroom, so its kinda weird, but you have to tell them you need to use the bathroom. You just do not may arise because it is connected to a monitor. They come in, unhook, go do your business back, hook you back and you go back to sleep. During the morning they come loose you and take the pads off and you take a shower and go to work or at home if you want. It takes a few days back with a diagnosis. There are different levels sleep apnea. You are only allowed 15 interruptions per hour so it will not be a problem. Interruptions can be you snore, tossing and turning, without breathing, heart, doing goofy things that happens, but these are the basics. I had an average of 55 interruptions a hours. My brother 66. I had stopped breathing at the same time for about 45 seconds. The way I understand sleep apnea is when you're not going into enough REM to be getting a good sleep. REM is basically the time that the brain shuts down for much needed down time and your body goes into automatic mode. Sometimes your body may forget to do the basics, when in automatic mode and your brain too needs to wake up and tell you to do them. Do not let that frighten you, because you'd be surprised how much this actually happens when we sleep. I also found out through my doctor that sleep apnea runs in families. My grandfather, father, brother and all and I also have one thing that helps my problem is a small mouth. It is half an inch lower than it should be. Some people will make it to his nose to help with snoring, when in fact it is probably the jaw. You can ask about it when you talk to your doctor. I hope aiding and sleep well.
