sleep apnea help
Do any of you ever used a CPAP for sleep apnea?

Ahver you have a sleep test done during the night in hospital and made his dr. neurologists to order it. Does Insurance make it a hassel. I'm Newely diagnosed, but I'm in a converter of oxygen and does not help me sleep. I understand and CPAP would not want to hear your experience and if possible, the brand you use for the base unit and the mask. this would be such a help to me in my old age. Thank you take time to share with me.

Hi, if your new to using a CPAP mask for OSA will be uncomfortable for a while and your body will take it off several times during the night, usually without you knowing. As you get used to the mask over the first two weeks your body will get used to the new addition. Being a user of CPAP is not a bad thing, most people (myself included) reported that after the first two weeks or so they sleep much better, waking up alert and refreshed. It will slowly be second nature and you'll start to think not like to sleep without CPAP. Some good resources are cpaptalk.com, cpap.com, http://sleepapnea.respironics.com/. I use a Respironics mask, and I'm happy with it. At first I could only just fall to sleep with it on. So I did for 1.5 hours, then a hour or two, then I went to five hours per night, now I can agree with the mask. Your CPAP (whichever you have) will tell you how many hours you have used, how you can track how long you kept it. Most of the CPAP is off, if you take off the mask. I do not know if they all do this, but not mine. Moreover, the mask actually "seals" the deal if you know what I mean. Stay abreast of masks that are available , and ask your therapist if you can try something else. There are at least a dozen or more masks that can work for you. Also, try to live a healthy life, in some cases, I read people have been unable to reduce the pressure on their treatment and even exit the CPAP. Anyway, if you have more questions feel free to ask. Keep up!
