I am trying to give up smoking, going ‘cold turkey’. Any tips?

Well I am on my last packet of cigarettes then I am going to try and give up smoking! I have decided that I can’t afford it, none of my friends smoke anymore so I feel a little anti-social, I hate smelling of it, it may stop me snoring and I am newly single and I don’t want my smoking to put any potential new blokes off me!

I am going to have to go ‘cold turkey’ though as I cannot afford patches and nicotine gum etc. I wonder if anybody had any tips?

I have smoked full-time for about a year and a half, before that I just used to have the odd one when I was out with a few drinks down me. I am going out for a friends birthday this weekend so I am a bit worried how my resolve will hold (although I don’t think anybody else smokes and of course, the club in non-smoking!). Also worried I might put on weight – I have lost quite a lot of weight recently and desparately don’t want to put it back on!

Why not give up now & chuck that last packet away? If you are so determined to give up now, why do you need to smoke those last few cigarettes? Not being funny, & i wish you the best of luck, but i have never known anyone who has said they are giving up by going cold turkey succeed unless they have the willpower to give up there & then – not after 1 last cigarette, or one last packet, or after the weekend.
If you haven’t got the gumph to give up NOW you wont have in 2 hours.

Also try the 7 minute rule :)
If you are really craving a cigarette promise yourself not to have one for 7 minutes. Now 7 minutes is not a long time & i’m sure the most hardened addict could wait 7 minutes!
Then go do something – read a magazine, play a game, go for a walk, get on the phone, whatever. 99% of the time 7 minutes later you wont be craving a ciggie. On that odd time that you are still – you have just gone 7 minutes really craving a cigarette. Are you really that weak willed that you couldnt manage another 7?……
